I’m upgrading a machine stuck on 10.6.8 and I didn’t want to pay for what was once a 100% free program. There are no other downloads of the old 2.2 version available. However, sometime in 2014, the author of TRIM Enabler made it a paid program and took away the free download for TRIM Enabler 2.2, opting to only make it available if you bought a newer version despite TRIM Enabler 2.2 being totally free to download and use. The tool of choice to do this for several years was called TRIM Enabler, with the last version supporting OS X 10.6 “Snow Leopard” being TRIM Enabler 2.2, the holy grail of flipping the TRIM switch on older OS X versions.

What do you do if you’re on an older version of OS X? Well, Apple doesn’t give you trimforce on older versions, so the only answer is to “hack” the storage driver in OS X to bypass the check. There is an exception: in Mac OS X 10.10.4 and later have a command you can run in a terminal called “trimforce” that will enable TRIM support for ALL SSDs, not just Apple SSDs.
Third party SSDs never have TRIM enabled.

I tried looking these passwords up in the Keychain Access but her Keychain Access seems organized completely differently than mine ( I have an iMac, about the same year). I'm pretty sure, but not positive, this has to something with IMAP and SMPT passwords. How can I get these emails to the flash drive? What I tried to do was to select all these 800 emails (edit -> select all) and drag this to a flash drive but that didn't work. However, before doing that, I thought it prudent to save her present emails in her gmail account (about 800 emails). Now, as I said, I don't know much but I thought she could get rid of the gmail account in Apple mail and start over with new passwords that all match and re-establish the gmail in Apple mail in that fashion. Now, she uses other email accounts as well and these all work fine thru Apple mail.

So, of course, I told her to update the (Apple) Mail program with the new password but this didn't work and she still cannot get gmail emails thru the Apple mail program. So what she did was to goto her gmail account online and set a new password, however she didn't update her Mail program -> Preferences -> Accounts -> Server settings. But she prefers to read her gmail emails using Apple mail. She uses an ethernet connection, not wi-fi, to connect to the internet.Īpparently, Mail just stopped being able to retrieve emails from her gmail account but she was always able to go to gmail online and get her emails. She has a MacBook Pro, mid-2009, using OS X 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard).
Her problem is with the Apple Mail program and she's unable to retrieve her emails from her gmail account. I'm posting today for my girlfriend who knows less about computers than I do, and I don't know much.
